Introduction
Louis Busuttil is well known in the airline industry as a revenue management
specialist, having served as Chairman of AGIFORS (Airline Group of the
International Federation of Operations Research Societies) Reservations and
Yield Management Study Group.
Airline
background
He has an airline industry background, rising to senior management levels at
both British Airways in London, and at Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong. At BA
(1987-1993), he led a team of 15 operations researchers responsible for the
development of forecasting and optimisation systems in BA’s COBRA (Capacity
Optimisation Brings Revenue Advantage) system. At Cathay (1993-1999), he led a
team of 25 OR and IT staff responsible for developing Cathay’s reservation
systems, CRS/distribution systems, pricing systems, and PROS-based yield
management systems. He
now undertakes short
term consultancy contracts in Airline Revenue Management on a freelance basis,
where his clients may benefit from his impartial and independent input.
University
/ Industry teaching:
As a full-time senior lecturer at Cranfield University he was responsible
for running their Executive MSc in Air Transport Management. He now continues
his association with Cranfield University as a visiting lecturer, where he
supports Air Transport MSc programmes by teaching Statistics, Operations
Research and Forecasting. He also teaches Revenue Management to Cranfield MBA
students, and has served as an external examiner for City University’s BSc
degrees in Air Transport Operations and Air Transport Studies. He is also a
regular lecturer on Euresas courses in Toulouse, and a regular speaker on Airbus
Air Transport Seminars.
Qualifications:
Louis is a fully qualified university lecturer. He is a Member of the UK’s
Institute of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (ILTM), and he holds a
Further Education Teaching Certificate (FETC). He also holds a BSc from
Sheffield University (1980), and an MBA from Lancaster University (1992). He was
born in Malta in 1957, he is a citizen of Malta and a Maltese passport holder,
and he has indefinite leave to live and work in the UK.
